Naples Porcelain Crowns
Porcelain crowns do more than just restore a tooth’s healthy function; they support the beauty of your smile. At Cameron Dental Studio, we use beautiful metal-free crowns that look so natural, people won’t know that you have a crown.
Our Crowns
A crown covers the entire tooth. It is used when a tooth is broken, or the decayed and restored portions of the tooth tooth are so large that a filling would be insufficient or would leave the cusps vulnerable to breakage.

BruxZir full-strength zirconia crown
In our practice, we use BruxZir Full-Strength Zirconia crowns. As a ceramic (like porcelain), zirconia is a material well-suited for creating a beautiful, natural-looking restoration. We value the aesthetics of our zirconia crowns so much that we often use them as part of our complete smile makeovers!
We also like zirconia for its strength. Among other ceramics, zirconia stands out as exceptionally strong and is often called “ceramic steel.” In fact, the BruxZir crown is so named because of its ability to stand up to the high pressure exerted when a patient with bruxism grinds his or her teeth.
Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal
With such a modern, ultra-strong ceramic crown available, we have no need for porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns, which contain a metal core that is overlaid with baked porcelain. These are strong restorations. But, because of the metal core that needs to be masked, they end up looking opaque and fake-looking. In time, they also reveal a dark line at the gumline where some of the metal shows through. They are no match for all-ceramic crowns.
Notice the difference in the two photos below. Before this patient’s porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns were replaced with all-ceramic ones, her teeth looked unnaturally opaque. This is because the metal base beneath the porcelain overlay is opaque; no matter how natural-looking the overlay, nothing can be done for this lack of translucency. You’ll also notice a thin grey line appearing at the gumline of each PFM crown, an aesthetic problem that inevitably occurs over time with this type of crown.
Thankfully, we are able to leave behind the aesthetic issues that metal presents. Our zirconia restorations provide all the necessary strength while beautifully blending in with your smile.
