How Teeth Whitening Works

You may have noticed that whitening toothpastes don’t really do much to brighten your smile. That’s because they only clean the surface of your teeth. But the source of tooth discoloration is located below the surface, in the dentin of the tooth. True teeth whitening requires the use of a bleaching agent that can seep down into the dentin to dissolve stains at their source. The peroxide gel we use in our treatments does this very effectively. For your convenience, we offer two types of treatments to help you achieve a brighter smile: in-office Zoom whitening and at-home whitening.

Zoom Whitening

For a brighter smile ASAP, you can’t beat our in-office Zoom whitening treatment. In just one appointment, you’ll leave with a dramatically whiter smile! Our process involves applying peroxide gel to your teeth and then using the latest Zoom technology to activate the gel for quick brightening. At-Home Treatment

If you prefer, you can also whiten your smile on your own using our at-home whitening program. Here’s how it works:

Exam

We’ll check to make sure your teeth and gums are healthy. If there aren’t any issues that could potentially cause sensitivity to the peroxide gel, you’ll be good to go! We can also move forward if you’ve had a dental exam recently.

Tray Fitting

Photo of a woman holding a plastic tray for at-home teeth whitening. Next, we’ll take digital impressions of your smile with our optical scanner so that we can create a custom-fitted plastic tray for you. The tray will fit snugly over your teeth to hold the peroxide gel in place.

Your At-Home Program

Finally, we’ll give you all the instructions and supplies (the tray and peroxide gel) that you need to start your at-home whitening journey. You’ll place some gel in the tray and insert the tray in your mouth. Then you’ll leave it there as prescribed, which is usually about 20 minutes each day. After two weeks, your smile will be brighter! And if you’d like to repeat the treatment, we can set you up with more peroxide gel at a follow-up visit.

How Long Does Teeth Bleaching Last?

With our in-office bleaching treatment, your initial results will be somewhat brighter than your lasting results, which will appear after a day or two.

Whichever treatment you choose, your smile will always be brighter than it would have been. Your whitening won’t fade over time, but your teeth will eventually accumulate more stains. This natural process happens at different rates for different people and may depend on the types of food and drinks you consume. While you may not be able to prevent your teeth from staining, you can always give them a fresh bleaching with one of our treatments.
