Naples Dental Anxiety

“An absolutely wonderful experience. I was so worried about the pain, and it was so easy — nothing like I have experienced. Dr. Cameron is gentle and uses a tiny needle, so I couldn’t feel it.” — Elizabeth Fox

If you feel anxious just thinking about dental treatment, you’re not alone. Dental anxiety affects all kinds of people, and not always in the same way. At Cameron Dental Studio, we take the time to listen and understand your unique needs so that we can help you feel completely at ease and comfortable in our care.

What is Dental Anxiety?

Dental anxiety is most easily recognized when it causes you to experience anxious feelings during treatment at the dentist. But a less obvious symptom of dental anxiety is difficulty getting numb from novocain. Because of the complex relationship between emotions and pain perception, the presence of anxious feelings often renders novocain ineffective. For this reason, at our practice, we prioritize your comfort during treatment, offer sedative medicine as needed, and remain responsive to any changes in your comfort level throughout your procedure.

Our Gentle Approach

When you have misgivings about dental treatment, it’s important to have a dentist who truly demonstrates care. At Cameron Dental Studio, we go the extra mile to make sure our patients feel comfortable. You can expect us to listen and respond to your needs, answer all of your questions, and empower you to make informed decisions about your care. Our gentle approach, combined with our modern tools and technology, help our patients experience pain-free treatments.

Does Laughing Gas Help Dental Anxiety?

If you feel anxious before treatment, nitrous oxide (often known as laughing gas) can help. It calms mild anxiety and gives you a carefree feeling. In doing so, it also has the important effect of allowing novocain to work properly so that you can remain comfortable throughout your procedure.

When Anxiety is More Severe

If you have considerable anxiety, you may have noticed that nitrous oxide isn’t enough to put you at ease during treatment. Don’t worry – at Cameron Dental Studio, we have the tools to help even the most anxious patients. We can prescribe you an oral sedative medication to take prior to your procedure which will allow you to remain in a completely relaxed state for the duration of your treatment.

While your reflexes will function as normal, and you’ll be able to respond to us as needed, it will seem like you’re asleep and likely won’t remember the appointment afterward.
